POETRY AND SPOKEN WORD

In the midst of the leafy woodland trees at Mekonville, experience the musings of poets, writers and spoken word artists, all with wisdom to impart and stories to tell...

A literary line-up consisting of friends of The Mekons, professional spoken word poets and writers, the poetry and spoken word area at Mekonville is bound to warm your soul and engage your brain at the same time.

We are very excited to be joined by Amy Wragg of GET ON THE SOAPBOX. Amy will be hosting our Spoken Word Stage, will be bringing some amazing performers to the line-up, and be running creative workshops!

Amy Wragg is an emerging poet based in Ipswich and a mature student at the University of Suffolk studying English. She is best known as the founder of SoapBox, an ever-evolving series of spoken word poetry, music and arts events which have taken place in Suffolk & Norfolk for over a decade. With a reputation for finding new voices in writing and performance, she is an advocate for the local creative community and is proud to have curated (almost all) of the poets taking part in Mekonville. Amy will be hosting the SoapBox Poetry Stage at the Festival, facilitating writing workshops, reading her own work, and dropping the odd cover from some of her favourite poets in the contemporary performance poetry world. Amy’s vocation in life is to change everybody’s minds about poetry, unless you already love it, then she’ll be trying very hard not to ruin that. www.getonthesoapbox.co.uk
