MATT ANNIS

Matt is a local poet, born and raised in Suffolk. He is currently studying English as a mature student at the University of Suffolk. He was the 2016 winner of the Student New Angle Prize for his short story 'The Bridge', which has been published as an e-book via the 'Suffolk Writes' scheme.

He performs his poetry at numerous open mic events in the local area, and have been fortunate enough to support some great poets, such as, Attila the Stockbroker and Dean Atta, as well as performing at several local festivals. Matt has been growing in confidence since beginning to perform in 2015, and now recite the majority of poems from memory. He has received a lot of positive responses for his performances, and is looking for to continuing to shape and improve his sets. He was also runner-up in the 2007 Crabbe memorial poetry competition, run by the Suffolk Poetry Society, and has had several poems published by Anchor books in 2016. Matt is keen to enter more competitions, and is hoping to self-publish a small collection of his poems sometime this year.
